Tutoring
Every boy and girl who celebrates their Bar or Bat Mitzvah with F.R.E.E. will be paired up with a special tutor for 10 or more one-on-one sessions. The Pre-Bar/Bat Mitzvah “curriculum” serves as a forum for discussion and discovery, encouraging the child to learn more about this unique time in their lives, and have their questions answered and explored.
During these sessions both boys and girls will cover the following: a brief history of the Jewish nation, famous biblical people and lessons that can be learned from them, Jewish life cycles, Jewish holidays and traditions, the land of Israel, an in-depth learning of the Torah portion, and Hebrew reading –time allowing. In addition, boys will learn about the importance of being called up to the Torah and prepare for their Torah/Haftorah reading as well as learn how Tefillin are made and worn. In contrast, girls are prepared for the reading of Aishet Chayil (Woman of Valor) and selected verses as well as guided in the performance of the special Mitzvot of lighting Shabbat candles and preparing Challah.
After the majority of the studying has been accomplished, the child and tutor will prepare a Bar/Bat Mitzvah speech in connection with the Torah portion and\or various topics he/she learned or connected with.
